Origami Pineapple & Tutorial

Hello,
Since today is the last day of Summer,  I thought I will do a tutorial on one of the Summer fruit that I enjoyed very much.
I started folding the units back in July.  I folded about 10 units at a time.

It turned out better than I expected.  This pineapple used 420 units.

I did the tutorial on how to fold the unit before but some how that post got deleted.   So here it is again.

You will need 1 3/4" x 3" for each unit.  I used 420 units total because each row consisted of 30 units and the pineapple had 14 rows.  My older pineapple  here used only 286 units.

Fold in half horizontally like shown. See picture below.

Fold in half to make a center crease.  Then unfold.  Now there are two sections, left and right.

Fold the left section down to the creased line.  Tip: don't fold over the creased line.

Repeat with the right section.

Flip the piece OVER so the pointed side is down.

Fold the left corner in

Then fold it down

Repeat with the other side.

Fold the piece in half and there you have it, your first unit.

This is how I stored all the units.

To assemble the pineapple:

Apply glue on the side of the unit like shown.

Glue another piece and kept repeating until you have 30 units or whatever the amount you are preferred.

Then join the 30 units to make the first row (circle).  It will look like this.  The first row is the only row that will be using glue.

Gather the bottom of the circle like the next picture and add the second row.  Joining between two units.  This is how the pineapple stays in tack.

Second row finished.

Keep adding row.  This picture showed how to join the units.

This is how to shape the pineapple.
See the unit in this picture.  It is slended ( is that the right word?) to the left.  This is to make the circle wider.

This next picture showed the unit is tilled to the right.  This is to make the row smaller.

Here is a complete pineapple.

For the center just roll a piece of green paper about 5" x 5" into a cone shape and put it in the center.

Cut random triangles from green card stocks.
and glue them like shown starting at the bottom.  I glued the smallest leaves first.
Then glued longer leaves as I went up.  There is no rule here.  Just arrange the leaves and trim the leaves if they are too big or too long and arrange them to look like the pineapple leaves.

I used tacky glue.  It dry faster than other glue and the papers were just regular color printer papers.

If you have any question about this tutorial, feel free to email me or leave a comment here

Thank you for visiting.

Hugs,
Helen

its so amazing!! by the way, what type of paper did you use for this?? construction paper or colored printer paper, or just origami paper??

Actually, instead of gluing all 420 pieces together, you could have folded an origami magic ball, created by Yuri Shumakov. There are many videos on YouTube, and if you'd like to make one, a video I found very clear and helpful would be this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGhcTwIJ4Es
