Hello,
I love the look of the cable knitting. I never heard or saw a cable needle until I saw it on Youtube. I don't like to spend money on something that I can find around the house. So instead of using a cable needle, I found an old pen about the size of my knitting needle (#10) to use as a cable needle.
I knit this cable scarf hoping my husband would use it. He does not wear scarf or gloves no matter how cold. So I will have to wait and see if he will use it.
If you look closely at the two cables, they are a bit different. To create the cable on the left, I moved the cable needle (pen) in front of the work. To create the cable on the right, I moves the cable needle to the back of the work.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Helen

Wao!...This is beautiful Helen ...I love your crotchet work! :)
Pretty scarf, Helen! How do you make a hook on the pen that you used?
Very nice. My husband doesn't wear a scarf either. How clever of you to make your own cable needle
Je vous souhaite une bonne et heureuse année 2013
I haven't made anything with cables yet, but I've experimented with them enough to know they're lots of fun! Your scarf turned out very nice -- hopefully you'll have some luck in getting your hubby to wear it!
How very clever you are to use some pens...lovely work. Hope your husband puts it to great use.
I am amazed all at the new techniques you so quickly learn and soon are an expert. This is so lovely,I haven't heard of cable knitting. So I have learnt something new today.
